Dr Yasantha Rajapakse, MBChB (Otago NZ) FRACS (Plast) is a Specialist Plastic surgeon. He graduated from Otago University, New Zealand in 1995 and has been practicing medicine for 29 years and surgery for 22 years.
He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, member of Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and International Society of Aesthetic plastic surgeons.
Dr Rajapakse has trained extensively in Australasia, Europe and the UK. After completing his plastic surgical residency Australia and New Zealand he then moved to Europe to further refine skills in aesthetic and microsurgical plastic surgery. He spent time after completion of his residency in Sevilla, Southern Spain working with leading surgeons in Continental Europe. This was followed by further training in all aspect of microsurgical breast reconstruction and aesthetic breast surgery at St Thomas Hospital, London UK, and the prestigious London cancer hospital, the Royal Marsden.
In addition to general reconstructive surgery, Dr Rajapakse has a special interest in all aspects of the Breast reconstruction and Skin cancer reconstruction.
Dr Rajapakse has a special interest in medical education and is involved in surgical simulation. He is also a senior surgical instructor for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons surgical skills course for junior doctors and lecturer at the University of Wollongong Medical School. He has been actively involved in training future plastic surgeons in his previous public hospital roles as a visiting medical officer (VMO) in the Canberra hospital in Canberra, Concord hospital in Sydney, and Wollongong hospital, in Wollongong NSW. He is currently an examiner with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
