Information

Dr Rajapakse employs aesthetic skills learnt in famous institutions that he trained at in Australasia, Europe and the US. There are many decision to think about when considering breast augmentation surgery. These include the type of look you desire, the type and shape of implant as well as placement of implants.

The era of making breasts larger without consideration for correct form and symmetry is now fortunately a thing of the past. All the major implant companies now use a form of cohesive gel implant, to improve shape. Choosing the implant is key in planning the perfect augmentation.

The beast implant can be placed either below the chest muscle (pectoralis major), above the muscle (subglandular or subfascial) or a combination (dual plane). Factors that influence this are the womens current shape and size. For example, if you have a very thin breast envelope as this allows diversity and ability to control breast shape.

The breast implant can be either round or anatomically shaped. Dr Rajapakse will determine which implant shape is best for each individual.

Every woman is different and has their unique expectations. Dr Rajapakse will tailor an individualized treatment plan to suit both your desires and your body type.

He will also discuss in detail potential risks and complications which are associated with this surgery at his initial consultation.

Is it right for me?

Breast augmentation is a highly individualised procedure with the best results achieved in those with a clearly defined concern and realistic expectations of what your breast surgery can achieve.. It is unadvisable to consider this type of surgery as a response to a personal or professional crisis or as under the encouragement of someone else. Dr Rajapakse as a a qualified plastic and cosmetic surgeon will assess you condition and general health and plan the treatment that is best suited for you.

There are some important issues to consider, such as breast implants are not guaranteed to last a life time and it is very likely that you will need at least one reoperation as you age or experience body changes with weight or children.

Will I need anaesthesia?

Dr Rajapakse will engage the services of a qualified anaesthetist who is a fellow of the Royal Australian and NZ College of Anaesthetists (FRANZCA).

Your anaesthetist will ask you about all the medications that you are taking or have taken and any allergies that you may have.

Will there be scarring?

Unfortunately any cut on the skin will leave a scar. However plastic surgeons such as Dr Rajapakse are skilled in using the natural tissue tension lines to “hide scars” in cosmetic sensitive places and make them as inconspicuous as possible.

Dr Rajapakse will also provide you with a scar management protocol, and discuss the best options for you.

Scar Revision

Occasionally scars can appear thickened and red, sometimes causing itch and irritation. Everybody heals and forms scars differently and occasionally these scars can be large and unattractive. Dr Rajapakse uses cutting edge surgical and non-surgical techniques to minimise and improve the appearance of scars.

Where is the surgery taking place?

All surgeries are performed either as a day case or over night stay at reputable internationally accredited facility.

What is the recovery period?

Patients are usually discharged the same day without drains (unless it is a secondary procedure)

Post operative pain is usually limited and is well controlled with pain relief tablets. Your wounds will be covered with waterproof dressings so that you may shower as soon as you feel comfortable. You will be asked to wear a soft surgical bra for support and comfort during the first two weeks to allow healing of your breast into their new shape. Gentle stretching can prove beneficial and exercise such as walking can commence within seven days. Most people can return to work within 3 to 5 days unless their occupation involves strenuous movement, when 2 to 3 weeks is recommended. All heavy lifting should be avoided for the first 6 weeks.

What are the costs?

You have the right to be informed about the costs associated with you surgery.

When choosing a surgeon for your cosmetic surgery, remember that factors such as surgeon’s training, qualifications, experience and your comfort them are just as important.
